DORF JURY 2022

Zoran Kubura (Sarajevo, 1982) is a journalist and author from Bosnia and Herzegovina
documentary films. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo
In 2006, Doc. with the film “Primitivism at first glance” which was the ticket to
the world of television. Since 2007, he has been working as a video journalist in the Documentary Editorial Office
of the BHT1 program. He recorded dozens of reports and TV documentaries. Most often he works in
creative team with colleague Bojan Hadžiabdić, with whom he signs the script,
direction and camera for most of the films, including last year’s DORF winner, the film about Indexi.

Marijana Bošnjak holds a master’s degree in economics from the “Entrepreneurship” study program
J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek. With experience in strategic, risk and
crisis management took over the failing company Kinematografi Osijek
in 2007. Complete business and program transformation in a short time
time, Osijek’s cinemas became one of the most successful
cinema screens with a constant growth in the number of audiences and the share of European films
in your program. She received an award for cinema for her business results
with the best program in Europe in 2015 and 2018 and a European award
for audience development from Europa Cinemas in 2018. She was a member
Validation Committee Europa Cinemas in two mandates until 2017, member of the jury
at the prestigious film festivals in Cannes 2015, Karlovy Vary 2011.

Boris Sekulić was born in Osijek in 1989, where he graduated from the School of Applied Arts. In 2014, he received his master’s degree at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, majoring in applied sculpture. He is active in various fields of visual and applied art. He exhibited at several independent and numerous group exhibitions in the country and abroad. He has been awarded several times for his work. Since 2014, he has been working as an assistant at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, Department of Sculpture, as an external associate. He is the author of numerous music videos, and for us he created a unique Lifetime Achievement Award for Don Letts, which we presented to him in Pula in 2016…

DORF DESIGN

A young sculptor, painter and photographer Mirjana Pjevac is in charge of the unique awards for the winners of this year’s festival.

The author of this year’s visual solution is Keith Kitz, professor of graphic design from Boston (USA) and author of numerous works rewarded around the world, a regular associate of the 46pgs cult croatian magazine.

The visual identity on the website and promotional materials are still being taken care of by Martin Peranovic, a designer from Otok, near Vinkovci.

“Još uvijek slušam rock” (Croatia, Mateja Jagar, 2022),

A short documentary film that talks about the significance and role of rock music in Croatia today, about the reasons whyy young people still listen to rock music. It brings the thoughts of various generations (always excellent Davor Gobac!) and bands, opens an interesting topic and inspires viewers to contemplate. World premiere.

“Vlajternativa itd.” (Croatia, Suteren film, 2022),

A well-documented story about the cult alternative music festival in rural city on the coast Benkovac – Vlajternativa has gone beyond the limits and became a symbol of passion and love for music. Association Vlajter- ego presented itself in this review of the first 10 years and we look forward to the next ones, with the big support we send to this cool team that is behind this great event…

“Uskrs, grad i rokenrol” (Serbia, Cultural Center Šabac/Kinematika Beograd, 2022),

“The importance of the local scene is huge, because every band in the world was once a small local band”, says one of the participants in the film. The Easter rock marathon is a festival organized in Šabac on Easter since 1993. The story of the festival is also the story of the city itself and the Sabac rock scene the last three decades – meet great bands Goblini, Ništa ali Logopedi, etc.  Croatian premiere.

“Cantine Thrash Priča” (Story of Cantine Trash – Slovenia, Tomaž Pavković, 2022),

A small town in Slovenia. Middle-aged guys have a band, because they wanted to  stand on stage at least once in their life. Even today, many years later, perseverance and love for music still bring them more than playing perfect solos. Croatian premiere.

SECRET HISTORY OF ROCK

„Rebel Dread“ (UK, Bohemia Media, 2020),

We proudly present a long-awaited film about the legendary Don Letts, filmmaker, manager, musician and DJ, with which we have been especially connected since 2008, when he was at the second DORF edition in Vinkovci, and later on – in Pula in 2016, when we gave him our lifetime achievement award. Meet one of the most important directors of music documentaries (he also won the Grammy Award in 2003 for the film “Westway to the World” about the legendary The Clash). He was involved in music, participated in various projects – from feature films (with Jonathan Demme …) through TV series around the world, great author of more than 300 videos (Pretenders, Pogues, Clash, Bob Marley …), manager and collaborator of a series of brilliant British punk and post-punk bands (The Slits, Public Image, The Clash). „Jimmy“ (Croatia, HRT, 2017),

A biographical documentary about Stjepan Jimmy Stanić – one of our greatest jazz, swing and pop singers, educated contrabass player and – most important – great author, musician and entertainer of distinctive style, voice and humor. It’s the first and only documentary about Jimmy, who was 88 at the time of shooting. Let me remind you, the great Jimmy is this year’s DORF Lifetime Achievement Award winner, we love him very much.

„Tomasz Tluczkiewicz – Easy Rider“ (Poland, Spectrum/TVP, 2017),

An exciting portrait of the visionary Tomasz Tluczkiewicz, one of the most important figures in the history of Polish music, especially jazz. Insight into the interesting history of Polish Pop culture – fascination with the film road and the biography of a key promoter of jazz music, along with numerous archival recordings (the Miles Davis concert in Warsaw is a highlight of the film, great story). Croatian premiere.

BOOK PROMOTION „Gore nego psetu – svijet po Mingusu” (Ex Libris, 2022)

The recent book in the cult edition of the great Rijeka Ex Libris was translated and staged by Saša Drach, a cult autobiographical text about the legendary jazz grandmaster Charles Mingus. We are looking forward to more and more good books on music and film in our mother tongue, read them and get them today.

DORF MEETING WITH… – Damir Avdić

The interview with Damir Avdic will be moderated by Mario Kovac. We represent one of the most important BiH authors, currently with an address in Slovenia – talking about Love, music, literature, theatre, areas that Damir, like almost no one else here, has refreshed with his creative & courageous insights, without much thought and calculation … Meet our laureate, we recall it here, Damir Avdić is the winner of the DORF 2022 Award for underground.

DJ MARIO KOVAČ

After opening on August 18, at the Craft Bar Valens Mario Kovac (theatre director, performer, DJ, actor, doctor of science, screenwriter, chess player, passionate pub quiz master) will give us a chance to dance with his summer DJ set, a crash of hits from all decades.

CONCERT – Brain Holidays

At the very end, after the announcement of the winner and official colosing ceremony, the cult reggae band Brain Holidays will be presented to the public in the lapidary of Vinkovci City Museum. Their fifth album was recorded in Jamaica, and for a years BH became synonymous for reggae in Croatia, a passionate concert attraction that comes to DORF with a lot of love&energy. Don’t miss this, it’s Saturday and still summer.
