„Efterklang: The Makedonium Band“ (Denmark/North Macedonia, Rosforth films, 2024)
direction: Andreas Johnsen, 81’
Efterklang are a great Danish band, they have been playing for over 20 years, and they had a great time in Skopje. They got an idea – to record material with local musicians and then perform in front of the monumental monument to freedom. In the film, we follow their creative process, with them is always the great Grga (deserving of numerous DORF guest appearances at MKC Skopje), as a key collaborator in the entire project. An excellent insight into the musical culture of the region, great music and an emotional film, which we are watching for the first time in Croatia, at the 18th DORF opening.
“Grandpa Guru“ (Croatia/BiH, association Točka kulture, 2024)
direction: Silvio Mirošničenko, 90’
Silvija Mirošničenko’s new documentary (which has also been on DORF several times) shows the continuity of the work of the band “Kultur Shock” with special emphasis on the interesting life, music and art of their singer and frontman Srđan Gina Jevđević. This is a story about human imperfection, transformations of one person in difficult times, escape to the end of the world (Seattle, with numerous interesting anecdotes and collaborators) and the demon that accompanies him.
„100dB“ (Slovenia, Porno Pasjon Prasentiert, 2024).
direction: Jaka Terpinc i Gregor Bauman, 61’
Indust-bag are a legendary Slovenian punk band from Metlika, which shone in the 80s with their punk poetics and excellent performances. The interesting thing is that even the lyrics of Goran Jarnevič, the band’s leader, were translated into Croatian (of course, Goran Rem), and the film was partially shot in Osijek. Authentic depiction of the reaction in a small place, honest lyrics and uncompromising live performances are well documented in this film.
„Zemlja nije moj dom“ (Serbia, RTS, 2023)
direction: Slobodan Simojlović, 83’
A dreamlike journey through time, the story of growing up and maturing the cult singer-songwriter Nenad Marić and his brother Marko, extremely talented musicians of the newer generation. A story about the survival of subtle aesthetics on the edge of the stage of our time and about their reaction to the imposed rules of the game dominated by rapacity and recklessness, immorality and kitsch… A collage of the real and the surreal, a presentation of a group of musicians from inside and outside, an attempt to capture the “Brechtian” atmosphere and the strange, mysterious sound that King Čačka does so well.
„Sanjalice“ (Serbia, Filmoskopija/theNO film, 2024)
direction: Vladimir Petrović, 69’
Meet Sanjalice, a female band from Belgrade, certainly the first of its kind in the Balkans, which was active in the mid-60s. The history of women’s writing in rock music began with Doda, the two Ljiljes and Nena, who started an exciting adventure as high school students. Go back to the beginnings of rock’n’roll, remember some cool moments from the past and – maybe get some inspiration… Exciting story, we’re premiering this excellent independent documentary in Croatia.
„Moć u glavi“ (Croatia, Eureka video, 2024),
direction: Dalibor Platenik, 108’
Dalibor Platenik’s fourth documentary film (we watched 2 already in Vinkovci) follows the creation of original rock groups in Požega, in the period from 1975 to 1991, cult places where they went out, with numerous interlocutors. Impressive archival material, a document of a vital scene about which – unfortunately – we do not know much, has been brought to light with this film, and we are especially happy about that. As one interlocutor in the film says, “Požega was Croatian Manchester in those years”, don’t miss the screening and get to know the great music created in a city that is very close to us…
„U ime oca: Petra“ (Croatia, Burra za HRT, 2023),
direction: Ines Pletikos, 52’
Ines is the author of the most screened films at DORF, ever. It is with great joy that we watch her new episode of the documentary series “In the name of my father”, in which she portrayed the iconic Franjo Blašković, the frontman of the band Gori ussi Winnetou. The protagonist is, in fact, his daughter Petra Blašković, an actress, who reveals to us what it was like to grow up with her charismatic father and mother Arinka Blašković Šegando, a musician and music teacher, who together led the bands Tingl-tangle and Gori Ussi Winnetou and the satirical radio show “Šjora Spija”, a weekly overview of social and cultural events in the country.
„Zauvijek autor: Saša Antić“ (Croatia, HDS, 2024)
direction: Toni Volarić, 52’
Toni Volarić is the author of numerous episodes of the series “Zauvijek autor” and has already been our guest, and this year we are watching his episode about the great Saša Antic, the songwriter of the great hits of the TBF group. This is a really important generational author, whose career and oeuvre – not only in the TBF context – occupy an important place in the history of Croatian music. Get to know the otherwise very self-effacing author in this portrait, along with numerous interesting interlocutors and anecdotes.
