“In Search of Tito’s Punks” (Rockmark, 2024)

Our friends Rockmark have just published a translation of the book that was originally published in English in 2023, under the title “In Search of Tito’s Punks”. Demob, a young street punk punk from the English provinces, recorded the song “No Room For You” in 1981, with which they did not achieve significant success in their native Great Britain. Thirty years later, its author and bass player of the band, Barry Phillips, found out that the song entitled “This is not the place for us” was famous in the territory of the former Yugoslavia and that eminent punk names had covered it. KUD Idiots, of course. “Where do the punks come from now in socialist Yugoslavia?” asked Barry Phillip, as well as “What does the song Demoba have to do with them?”. In order to learn as much as possible about “Tito’s punks”, their music and thoughts, he visited Zagreb, Ljubljana, Pula, Novi Sad, Belgrade and Kragujevac where he talked with the main protagonists (Pankrti, Darko Rundek, KUD Idijoti, Urbana gerila, Atheist Rap , KBO!…), journalists, critics, publishers and fans (Petar Janjatović, Aleksandar Dragaš, Zdenko Franjić, Marin Rosić…).
