Fans of music documentaries in Zagreb, thanks to the cooperation with the Mesnička Cultural Center, will have the opportunity to watch DORF films in the first half of the year, in a weekly rhythm, with conversations with guests. Films that have received DORF awards in the past 13 years, the best films from the regional selection but also the most interesting titles from the cult selection The Secret History of Rock have been selected for screening, with free admission. After the screenings, talks about the films were organized, and an accompanying OFF DORF program was prepared. The start is from 19:00.
In the first KCM month, 4 screenings were organized, and below we bring information about 4 new dates. The Zagreb premiere of the film about the great Betty Davis, a great funk icon, is a real treat for all fans of dangerous funk groove. The film “Betty: They Say I’m Different” by Phil Cox (UK, 2017) was shown 2 years ago at the DORF opening in Primosten. The impressive life story of the great Betty first shown on the big screen is an opportunity for everyone to meet one of the Leaders, an exciting life story, fascinating music and – unfortunately – (too) little archival video material. Model, briefly married to Miles Davis, Betty Davis recorded 3 real funk masterpieces in the period 1973-1975, and how the continuation of the exciting story goes, find out in KC Mesnička 18.02. from 7 p.m.
The DORF Festival has always been a platform for young authors, who have articulated interesting sketches from the lives of many authors and creatives, from all over the world. On the menu on Monday 24.02. There are 3 short films – “More than a barber shop” (Ireland, 2016), about a fantastic cool barbershop in Dublin, “Silver Song” (Macedonia, 2012) about the talented Maria Milosevska who very creatively combines a rich tradition (filigree) and modern – recall On this occasion, Marija spent two years making awards for DORF laureates. The third film in the program 24.02. is “I live in barracks” (Fade in, 2013), by the great author Željka Kovačević about an interesting Roma hip hop band Euro Black Nation, from Baranja.
In the period reserved for DORF winners, our guest 02.03. is Dušan Moravec (Slovenia), as a double DORF laureate. We are watching his film “The Real Man for Capitalism” (2013) about the incredible Damir Avdić. Meet Damir Avdić, in the only documentary film so far about that genius Man With a Guitar, a film that won the main prize at DORF 2014.
The fourth term is reserved for jazz. In collaboration with the cult show HRT World of Jazz, we are watching a documentary about the legendary German record company ECM Records. The reconstruction of Pat Metheny’s concert in Zagreb in the late 1970s through exclusive photographs, the music itself, as well as the testimony of organizers and eyewitnesses, speaks of the first breakthroughs of ECM jazz in this part of the world and the beginnings of a new jazz era. HRT director and editor Melanija Pović Jagarinec, journalists and jazz experts, associates in the show Davor Hrvoj and Saša Drach, filmologist and jazz expert dr.sc. will speak about the film and ECM music. Nikica Gilić. We will also present the book The World of Jazz, edited by Saša Drach.
Our first DORF goes jazz evening is on the program 09.03. – Of course, from 7 p.m.
The author of the design is the award-winning young author Martin Peranović from Otok.
